Scientific research is one of the pillars conservation areas are built upon, as it contributes to a better understanding of how ecosystems work and relate to human and wildlife preservation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In this context, Maputo Special Reserve signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian Cooperation Project, Conservation and Fair Use of Biological Diversity in the SADC Region – SECOSUD II, in order to strengthen joint research activities in the field of biodiversity and conservation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The agreement aims to provide the Reserve with meteorological monitoring tools and develop control systems for monitoring infectious and parasitic diseases among cattle, wildlife and humans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The SECOSUD II project is jointly implemented by Eduardo Mondlane University and La Sapienza University of Rome. Under the project, five weather stations have already been installed and research and data collection activities of several hundred species, including medicinal plants, have been carried out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the event, SECOSUD II donated a centrifuge and a microscope to the field research laboratory. The facility will be available to the Reserve and students interested in research and developing scientific studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
